Lefaladi Edwina Makgamatha, 34
Lefaladi Edwina Makgamatha is a 34-year-old single mother of 2 boys who is a Paraplegic and a businesswoman. Edwina was involved in a car accident in 2006 that broke her pelvic bones. She was told that she will never have kids in her lifetime but by the faith she had, she conceived immediately afterwards. In 2010 she was involved in another car accident in which broke her spinal cord and left her a level T12 Paraplegic.
When she left the hospital she struggled with accessing medical consumables which people with disabilities need on a day-to-day basis to forge an independent life. With her research on suppliers she then solely started the company Thusanang Enabling Support Services (Pty)Ltd in 2014. The company supplies medical and surgical consumables mostly to people living with disabilities with the aim being to assist them with forging an independent life and restoring their dignity.
Edwina is also the Chairperson of an NPO, Thuso Ke Botho which focuses more on training the caregivers on basic knowledge on how to better care for people living with disabilities.
She is currently studying for a degree in Industrial Psychology with UNISA because of the passion she has with making the working environment a better place for both the employer and employee.
